IFISA Assembly and seminar agenda
09th–10th of September 2025 | Tatra Hotel Bratislava.
Note: Topics and timings are provisional and may change until the final schedule is confirmed

This session will explore the critical role of human factors in FIS operations, focusing on performance, decision-making, communication, and workload management. Experts will share research findings, best practices, and strategies to optimize human performance and reduce operational risk.

For pilots, knowledge is power, especially when it comes to navigating the complexities of air travel. Aerodrome Flight Information Services (AFIS) and Enroute Flight Information (EFI) are critical components that empower pilots with the data they need to make informed decisions, both on the ground and in the air. ✈AFIS provides essential information at non-controlled aerodromes, offering pilots updates on weather conditions, runway status, and local air traffic. This service is crucial for ensuring safe takeoffs and landings, particularly in environments where air traffic control services are limited. Meanwhile, Enroute Flight Information keeps pilots informed throughout their journey, providing real-time updates on weather patterns, potential hazards, and airspace changes. ✈But what is the level of service provided from a pilot's perspective?

Resilience in a Changing World – The Aviation Perspective In an era marked by rapid technological evolution, global disruptions, climate volatility, and shifting geopolitical landscapes, resilience has become a cornerstone of modern aviation. From air navigation services and airport operations to regulatory frameworks and safety oversight, the ability to adapt, absorb, and recover from change is not just strategic — it is essential. The aviation industry operates at the intersection of complexity and precision. Whether managing traffic flow during extreme weather events, responding to pandemics, or integrating emerging technologies like AI and unmanned systems, aviation stakeholders must foster systems that are agile, robust, and forward-looking. As global air traffic rebounds and environmental imperatives grow, the aviation community must continue investing in resilient practices — not only to ensure continuity and safety but to uphold public confidence and sustainability in a changing world.

As the aviation world continues to evolve, technology and automation play an ever-growing role. But at the heart of safe and efficient operations remain the people – the Flight Information Service Officers (FISOs) and Aerodrome Flight Information Service providers (AFIS). This panel will bring together experts from different areas of aviation to discuss: - The vital role of the human element in FIS/AFIS - How emerging technologies will shape the future of the service - Strategies for maintaining professionalism, resilience, and adaptability - Collaboration between human expertise and digital innovation

This session will provide participants with important information on current regulatory developments and future directions related to Flight Information Services and ATM in general. EASA representatives will present key updates and be available to address questions from delegates. We encourage all participants to attend this valuable session and take part in discussions that contribute to the advancement of our field.

Integrating UTM and FIS: Managing the Future of Airspace The rapid rise of drones and other unmanned aerial systems is reshaping the way we think about airspace — and challenging traditional models of air traffic support. As these new entrants become more frequent and diverse, the need for seamless coordination between Unmanned Traffic Management (UTM) systems and existing Flight Information Service (FIS) operations is becoming critical. At the 15th International FISO Seminar, we’ll address one of the most urgent and transformative topics in today’s aviation landscape: How can FIS units adapt and integrate into an airspace environment increasingly shared with unmanned traffic? This session will explore: - The current landscape of UTM development in Europe and globally - The evolving operational and strategic role of FIS in a multi-user airspace - Information exchange, situational awareness, and real-time traffic data - Regulatory, procedural, and human factors considerations - Lessons learned from early UTM-FIS integration projects As the boundaries between manned and unmanned operations continue to blur, FIS professionals are uniquely positioned to contribute to safe and efficient integration — but only if equipped with the right tools, training, and strategies.

Jotron’s mission is to deliver communication solutions that ensure safety and efficiency in the most critical aviation environments. This presentation highlights Jotron’s role in supporting Flight Information Service and Air Traffic Control operations with advanced VHF/UHF radios, voice communication systems, and recording solutions. By combining proven reliability with innovative technology, Jotron enables controllers and FIS officers to maintain clear, uninterrupted communication—strengthening situational awareness and enhancing overall air traffic safety.

Discover real-world examples, proven strategies, and innovative approaches that enhance service quality, operational safety, and efficiency in FIS environments. This session offers valuable insights from experienced professionals and provides a platform for sharing practical solutions and lessons learned across regions.

This session will provide participants with the latest developments, standards, and guidance materials relevant to Flight Information Services and ATM in general, on a global scale. ICAO representatives will offer valuable insights into current initiatives and upcoming changes that impact FIS operations worldwide. This is a key opportunity to stay informed, ask questions, and engage with the global regulatory framework shaping our profession.

This session will address key practices, regulatory frameworks, and operational challenges related to the safe and efficient coordination of apron traffic. Experts will share insights on procedures, communication, and the integration of apron management with Flight Information Services.

As the Single European Sky (SES) evolves, the role of people—air traffic controllers, pilots, engineers, and other aviation professionals—remains central to its success. This session, led by IFISA Vice President Oliver Wessollek, highlights the human factors that support safety, performance, and change in a modern ATM environment. As a full member of the European Commission's Expert Group on the Human Dimension of SES (CEGHD), IFISA brings a unique perspective on how collaboration, training, automation, and well-being must align to ensure a truly human-centered, sustainable future for European air traffic management.

Bratislava has icons that every visitor should see and Bratislava Flag Ship restaurant is one of them. The restaurant is one of the largest in Europe and offers local Bratislava cuisine and various Slovak dishes. It is also houses the so – called Bratislava Golden Lane, where you can sample local specialties and see what Bratislava looked like around 100 years ago.
